Whitniffic Whatnots

Oh boy. What have I gotten myself into? I got home from the quilt show last weekend all excited about my Attic Treasures bag of pastel rainbow clamshells, so I dumped them all over the den floor. I have no idea what the original plan was for these, but it seemed like some of them were organized in little color gradations. Not anymore! I divided all the shells up and grouped them by color just to see what I was working with. There appear to be 800+ pieces here! Yikes! My conclusion- there's a LOT of peach. And quite a bit of purple. I guess  the majority of the quilt will be peach and purple! I may add a neutral grey in there too, depending on the design I come up with. I think I'm feeling a rainbow fish coming on... There are a few stacks of large gingham check pieces mixed in, and I'm not sure I like them. They'll be helpful for practicing sewing these shapes together though! Yikes! This is going to be interesting... It seems like maybe these p...

My mother in law is part of her church's quilting group, the First Quilters. Last Saturday they hosted a Quilt-A-Thon, an all-day sewing workshop complete with food, fabric and laughter. This was my third time attending since last spring, and I'm really starting to enjoy the company. I'm only a tad jealous of those who are retired and can quilt all day long during the week. :) The first part of the day was spent on whatever projects the ladies wanted to work on. I brought the cute pink scrappy HST quilt I'd been working on with my friend Daniel, and finally finished quilting it. It turned out super cute, and now it's ready for binding! It should all set for his niece Audrey's first birthday next month. Well, the final month has arrived, and I am almost done with my 10-month Mystery Puzzle Quilt journey! Feel free to hop back in time to my first post about this... I've really enjoyed the process of doing this Block of the Month thing. Each month, around the 5th or so, I received a cute pink package in the mail containing pre-cut fabric pieces and instructions to assemble a few blocks. I had chosen my color way (i.e. picked one that included lime green, duh) in February for the Cotton Cuts Spring Mystery Puzzle Quilt without knowing what the finished product would look like. I guess that's the "mystery" part. That scared me a bit! I'm pretty particular about my quilting style. I tend to lean towards more modern designs... and for $17.50 a month for the small quilt, this was kind of a risk for me. If you think about it, that's $175 over the course of the 10 months. Yikes! I've never spent that much on a  quilt top in my life! Well... I suppose now ...
